Review of Smokey and the Bandit (1977) by Mike C — 29 Dec 2008
Burt Reynolds at his best.
You can safely sip on a Coors pretty much anywhere in North America now, but this very expensive beer run has become a classic movie.
I loved Jerry Reeves as the downtrodden truck driver suffering under Bandit's whims. I don't think Sally Field has ever seemed more at home in a role as she did here. Everything clicked. Even Jackie Gleason's Beuford T. Justice was more entertaining here than in the following sequels.
In the days before Dukes of Hazzard this was fresh and fun, elevating the value of black Trans Ams forever.
