Review of Smokey and the Bandit (1977) by Jake C — 06 Sep 2018
Mindless, mild, but ultimately so good-natured, energetic, and fun that it would be hard not enjoy this ride for as long as it lasts. Reynolds radiates pure charisma, a strange mix of showoff smugness and underdog guilelessness, Sally Field-well, how could anyone not like her?-while Gleason and the rest are having a ball just playing around with these very thin archetypes.
The whole thing exudes a reckless sort of panache, an overwhelming confidence and abandon to match the car chases and stunt work.
