Review of Smokey and the Bandit (1977) by Daniel H — 04 Sep 2009
Smokey and the Bandit established Burt Reynolds' fame as the Bandit, driving a black Pontiac Transam, as the blocker for his partner, a truck driver who is haulling 400 cases of Coors beer back to Georgia. It's after the Bandit picks up a runaway bride that they become the prey of the obnoxious Sheriff Buford T. Justice and his inept son Junior.
The car chases, Bandit's personality, the connections he has, and the chatty CB radio patter make this one of the better car chase films. However, Sally Field's character, who's at times whiny and self-centered, is somewhat of a debit.
