I can't remember if I read this book but I saw the film without much background. Sometimes that is better as a movie can be critiqued to death before you get a chance to personalise it.
I loved this film and it concreted my love of Julia Ormond as an actor. When I saw it though, it was titled "Smilla's feeling for snow" ... a better title I think.
