Review of Smiley Face (2007) by Alan G — 27 Feb 2011

This movie started out interestingly and humorously enough. Lots of familiar names and faces grace the cast list, which help give off the whole "Hey, it can't be THAT bad," vibe. But it was.

So Anna Faris plays a girl who accidentally gets REALLY high one day - which pretty much just consists of walking around with her mouth hanging open and making really idiotic (borderline retarded) decisions. In addition to this painfully cliche portrayal of stoned behavior, the movie also has a tendency to drag out scenes far longer than they needed to be. Sometimes it's a joke that doesn't know when to stop. Sometimes its an attempt at a stylized montage segment. Never is it necessary. A very big disappointment for a film that started out humorously with a surprisingly original premise that gave lots of room for humorous adventure. Like I said, the film had its moments... but in the end, you would probably have to eat TWO trays of pot-cupcakes in order for it to be THAT funny.
