Review of Smiley Face (2007) by Paige A — 08 Apr 2010
I am tempted to give this a 50, actually, but can't bring myself to do it because of my love for Araki. It only had a few laughs. You'd have to be stoned to really enjoy it. It didn't have any of that stuff in it that makes me like Araki.
The normal actors, the good music, the style, the araki 'tone', the slang, the 90s-ness. I just feel like all his other films, while still TRASHED by critics and normal folk alike, are still better than Smiley Face, as a whole.
I'll give him props for trying something different, but there's no denying it, teenagers questioning their existence on the road to the great sexual awakening of the 90s, is his one and only forte.
