Review of Smiles of a Summer Night (1955) by Elijah B — 06 Jul 2007
The only Bergman film that is fun to watch and easygoing (yes, 'Bergman' and 'easygoing' in the same sentence - Bergman claims he made this film simply to please the crowd as he was desperate for money), as well as rude in an intelligent, sarcastic way - I love it.
Swedes are still like this, trust me I know. I can't stand men like Fredrik Egerman or live with Count Malcolm (though dangerously charmimg), that's why I moved to Britain. And, for the girls, we're definately at least as naughty nowadays too.
Very entertaining movie where women are on top! Just look at Desiree's mother - and learn.
