Review of Smiles of a Summer Night (1955) by Tracy S — 18 Feb 2008
Only because it is so vastly lighter than the majority of Bergman's work can this film be classified as a comedy. While casually funny, this film actually achieves moments both dark and insightful.
Not my favorite Bergman, but his deep understanding of the human condition reveals itself in this romantic comedy as well as in his deeper masterworks.
