Review of Smart People (2008) by Katchoo _ — 08 Dec 2008
A quiet little comedy that succeeds mostly because of the charm of its cast: Ellen Page, Dennis Quaid, and Thomas Haden Church are all fun to watch. The thing is, though, that these actors are always fun to watch, no matter their roles, and while "Smart People" gives them some interesting situations, it doesn't provide a very coherent story for them.
"Smart People" is interesting and entertaining, but doesn't really offer anything new. To see how this same sort of plot (and these same sort of characters) can truly become both heartbreaking and hilarious, all while involved in a more developed and cohesive plot, check out "Winter Passing," with Will Ferrell and Ed Harris.
