Review of Smart People (2008) by Jonathan C — 19 Aug 2009
Choppy plot with barren conflicts and pretentious lenses strewn throughout the entire feature do not sound like aspects of an enjoyable movie. Thankfully, acting is what saves this otherwise pointless attempt at a skeletally composed story-line.
Ellen Page and Dennis Quaid both put forth fantastic performances. However, the absolute irritating character of Sarah Jessica Parker's character, coupled with her poor acting, drags this movie down just a little bit to where one would expect it to be without the aforementioned performances acting as life buoys.
Dry humor and sarcastic, off beat comments do make it a movie worth seeing if not for the acting.
