Review of Smart People (2008) by Magdalena V — 17 Jul 2010
Smart People wants to be the next Little Miss Sunshine or Juno, but it just can't live up to those films. However, all of the actors are really great in it. Dennis Quaid does an awesome job portraying this miserable professor.
His performance is very vulnerable, and charming overall. Thomas Haden Church and Ellen Page are at their highest point of hilarity. And, of course, SJP is probably the reason I went to this - and she was great! In the end, the plot was really thin and the relationships of the characters moved along so quickly that they didn't seem developed enough for the ending to pay off.
But it was really well-written, so go see it for a funny script and great acting.
