Review of Small Change (1976) by Frankie A — 19 Sep 2008
Truffaut's sweet and funny film about just being a kid, is centred on a classroom of boys around 12 to 14 years old. There are many highlights from mischief-making to first kisses. A slice of life movie that is gentle and likely very personal for Truffaut who co-wrote and directed.
I especially liked a pair of brothers who were inseparable and made themselves Sunday breakfast, tried to buy a shiny compass set at the store at a discount, told dirty jokes, and more.
An influence on the films of Steven Spielberg and Rob Reiner.
