Review of Slow West (2015) by Billy E — 03 Jul 2015
Its entertaining but although it was praised for being a new take on the western I found it a bit cliched in parts.
The scripts a bit unsubtle: "I'm not like you Payne". " Jay Cavendish taught me there's more to life than mere survival."..because eh thats my character arc. And everyone seems concerned with the plight of native Americans.
The thing that really got me is almost every scene is filled with illogical things:
- why is Ben Mendelsohn wearing half a bear in the blazing sun.
- why doesnt Ben Mendelsohn even try and get the location from the kid?
- why do they continue to lead the bounty hunters even after they know they are being followed?
- why doesn't John Ross notice a bloke dressed as a priest, standing about 20 meters away, pointing a massive rifle at him.
- how does the entire corn field go up in flames in about 5 seconds.
- how does Rose failed to notice she just shot her friend?
- why "Payne" wander into the house, as if no-one would be in there with a gun.
