Review of Slither (2006) by Mike P — 10 Dec 2009
Wonderful B-Movie horror flick!
In the rural town of Wheelsy, local Starla Grant (Elizabeth Banks) refuses the advances of her husband Grant Grant (Michael Rooker). The man, upset, goes to a bar to have some drinks and meets his acquaintance Brenda Gutierrez (Brenda James), and end up in the woods with her, where a meteor lands. When Grant leans in to touch it, the meteor releases an alien parasite that controls Grant's brain. As days go by, Grant develops an insatiable hunger for meat, builds a nest of slugs in his cellar, infecting Brenda to spread the parasites, the slugs begin to attack the townspeople, possessing their bodies; and it's up to the local sheriff Bill Pardy (Nathan Fillion), and the townsfolk, to put a stop to these zombie-like aliens before they take over and use up the resources of the planet.
Where do they think up stuff like this? Only in the mind of a creator who spent many nights in the drive-in of a B-Movie theater can a story be told quite this way. But also so humorously. Some of it may be gross, some may be gory, a lot of it may be ridiculous-- they know just where the jokes are, know where the horror is, and how to effectively entertain the viewers.
Slither is not only a movie you can watch over and over; it's a movie that grows on you the more you watch it.
Recommend to buy, and don't forget to watch the DVD extras. 8.2/10.
