Review of Slither (2006) by Juel B — 01 Feb 2010
OK this movie hands down is awesome - - it has humor, great gooey gore, zombies, slugs, tennacles comin' out of orfices from the body - its just awesome! Hardly (tho a few) a lick of CGI in sight - many of the effects were done prosthetically...and I was very pleased w/ the amount of gore. This isn't a "HORROR" movie per se, but more thrilling. But again, definently a funny one.Though it is funny, the "alien" horror is played straight. The writer of the DAWN OF THE DEAD remake turned out to do a good job for his directorial debut. No lie though --- many animals die in this film. Its a melting pot of David Cronenberg's version of THE FLY, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, The Blob, Night of the Creeps, & DEFINENTLY John Carpenter's The Thing. Havent seen a movie like this since the good ole' days of the 80s. This movie is everything Robert Rodriguez's The Faculty TRIED to be....and failed miserably at trying. In a quick beat, the story concerns a husband finding a alien spore out in the woods (fresh from landing on earth), and it spits something out & enters his body. From that point on, its just the growth of his grotesque nature, and his plan to spread it all over the town.
