Thornton's spellbinding portrayal of Carl is only outdone by his gritty screenplay and flawless direction. Surrounded by an awsome ensemble of supporting actors, Sling Blade is the total package. John Ritter turns in an award-worthy preformance as the gay store clerk, and I had to wait for the credits to even identify Dwight Yokum as the abusive "Doyle.
" One of my top 10.
