Review of Sling Blade (1996) by Jamey P — 18 Mar 2016
I don't know what was more amazing, Thorton's direction or his portrayal of Karl. Spectacular film making. Ritter as a supporting actor also turns in an amazingly strong performance as does the rest of the cast.
Using movies that are this heavy handed with foreshadowing fall a bit flat/flatter, but Slingblade isn't hampered by letting you see what's coming in the least. Which is also sad because it means the film didn't need to go down the tragic road it does to have the impact it does; it's so strong and complete it could have been a predictable feel good formula film and still felt just as worthwhile with a sappy and happy ending instead of the sad and dark one it foretells from the bear beginning.
