Review of Sling Blade (1996) by Jennie J — 20 Feb 2010
One of those legendary American indie flick classics from the 90s that I somehow missed over the years.
It's quite charming and oh-so sweetly American. I kind of loved it. The cast is remarkable, and it's a stark reminder of what a loss John Ritter was to Hollywood.
Dwight Yoakam is terrifying, and is a constant interruption to a kind serenity in a small Arkansas town. I couldn't escape an anxiety through the entire film that "things just aren't going to end well" ... it's a fantastic experience.
