Review of Sliding Doors (1998) by Benedick L — 24 May 2008
Watched this film because it's by the director of Dangerous Parking, a film I was in recently. The director is certainly imaginative. A decision made earlier in the film about whether Helen (Paltrow, who does a really good english accent) catches a train.
The first strand shows she doesn't and subsquently doesn't find out her boyfriend is cheating on her, the second shows her catching the train, meeting John Hannah, and catching her boyfriend cheating on her.
The first strand has some nice tension to it (i.e when will she find out her boyfriend is a prick) and the second strand is, hate to use this word, romantic. The story comes to a head with an accident where only one helen lives.
Sad at first but happy at the end. Not a guilty pleasure movie but not a bad movie either.
