Review of Slender Man (2018) by Kirollos N — 01 Nov 2018
Despite the other ratings, I watched this movie with anticipation. In the end disappointed. Not because of the somewhat generic storyline or achetype characters, but by the over censorship. Sure, Its DEFINITELY one of those horror movies you can guess what's gonna happen next, but I think concidering the subject matter and general tone of this movie, its more of a charm then a let down, and while the character archetypes are predictable, the actors preformances where amazing enough that you still found yourself attaching to the characters.
My problem is the deleted scenes. I watched as the eye stab from the trailer didn't happen, as the girls just suddenly had the laptop, and we were all left qondering what would happen to that boy.
It left me with a bittersweet feeling at the end, because while I did enjoy the movie for what it was, there were obvious pieces in it missing that I was left to fill. And all because they said they didn't qant to be offensive.
Which I don't think they even achieved. In my eyes there is no way to not make this movie and not have it be offensive, honestly. So, you either make the movie or don't. Unless they decide to ever release a directors' cut ( which I think we all know is very unlikely), then I guess I'll be left with the bittersweet feeling of a good movie that's only partly done.
