Review of Sleepwalk with Me (2012) by Justin V — 28 Jan 2013
Wonderful film from writer/director/star Mike Birbiglia. Truly regret not seeing this in the theater when I had the chance, but that's why there's home video. Birbiglia plays Matt Pandamiglio, a struggling comedian with everyday stresses.
His problems are compounded by his sleepwalking episodes, which are manifestations of his stress. How he deals with these issues is interesting and enlightening, and definitely hilarious. Birbiglia puts himself out there as this is based on a true story, and he parlayed his experiences into a hit off-Broadway one-man show.
Decent performances from Birbiglia, Lauren Ambrose (as Abby, Matt's girlfriend), Carol Kane and James Rebhorn (as Matt's parents) and a nice story that is relatable to just about anyone on multiple levels.
JV.
