Review of Sleeping with Other People (2015) by Craig F — 11 Dec 2015
It's frustrating when a film spends 85 minutes building a great story to throw it away to a cliche in the final 8. Jake and Lainey had a beautiful relationship up until he calls her from the police precinct.
They experience incredible character growth and the elusive (though not in cinema) true love, and Jake finds his own love, but pisses it all away for a rom-com ending. It's wildly funny for the first hour but after the birthday party the tone shifts into romance and towards its doom.
The film would have been better off had these two characters not succumbed to lust, instead finding their way forward as friends. The ending really hurts what could have been an excellent film.
