Review of Sleeping Beauty (1959) by Garrett R — 09 Oct 2010
SLEEPING BEAUTY is Walt Disney's last overseen animated film (not including any early 1960's animated films) before his death in 1966. The level of attention paid to the polish of SLEEPING BEAUTY's animation, the intricacy of the enchanting and thrilling story, the black-hearted malevolence of perhaps Disney's most despicable villain Maleficent, and the moral action plus stronger character development than most Disney films (especially the classics) allows SLEEPING BEAUTY to be a flawless film classic.
An animated classic it is too! The unparalleled attention to animated detail and to moral action and character development (and a timeless score) cannot be found in present-day 2-D animated pictures, and in most computer-generated films as well (not Pixar!). Having read a book on Walt Disney and popular culture, he said that SLEEPING BEAUTY is his favorite animated feature film. Having said that, SLEEPING BEAUTY deserves attention from children of all ages. Be ready for more Critiques and Opinions on Every Movie I Can Get My Hands On!
