Review of Sleeping Beauty (1959) by Reece L — 07 Nov 2015
To go for the obvious piece of wordplay, Sleeping Beauty is, in fact, extremely beautiful. Possibly the best of all the disney films, this simple, technically flawless fairy tale retains all of the qualities that those smitten by classic animation love while updating the visuals to something more modern and complex, an unbelievably gorgeous production filled with iconic imagery.
The central love story is cute, the fairies are adorable, Maleficent is one of the greatest villains of all time, and the score is lovely; there's not a whole lot else to say. Sleeping Beauty is practically perfect, and more than holds up against modern day animated works.
