Review of Sleeper (2012) by Bradford M — 30 Aug 2008
Very funny, somewhat absurdist film about an unsuspecting â??everymanâ?? (the typical W.A. protagonist) who is cryogenically frozen and then defrosted in the sexually anesthetised future by anti-government radicals.
I hadnâ??t really taken note of this before when watching Allenâ??s films, but the opening credits are very old-school Classic Hollywood in that they are blatantly paced before the film without being made subservient to some sort of cinematic amuse-bouche as in most contemporary films.
Not that I havenâ??t enjoyed my fair share of credits that are more seamlessly integrated, but I also love how Allenâ??s deliberate homage to earlier credit protocol highlights the fact that although it is â??Woody Allen filmâ?? itâ??s not simply a Woody Allen production.
