Review of Sleeper (2012) by Ivan M — 29 Apr 2012
Woody Allen plays Miles Monroe, a jazz musician who is crygenically frozen in 1973 and thawed out 200 years later. He awakens in a dystopian world where his quirky sense of self is threatened by ruthless conformity and iron-fisted punishment.
Eventually crossing paths with Luna (Diane Keaton), Miles is forced to revolt against the dogmatic world order. Sleeper is laced with Orwellian innuendo, but its wacky dialogue and physical comedy place it equally in the realm of Charlie Chaplin or Buster Keaton.
Woody still hasn't transcended genre parody with Sleeper, but hints of what he would accomplish in the late 70's are apparent in this fun and funny movie.
