Review of Slap Shot (1977) by Alexander Z — 14 Jun 2011
Considering how many hockey fans told me I HAD TO SEE IT, I was let down. The movie has moments that make you smile a laugh, but it doesnt take long for it to crash you back down to earth with the sobering late 70s economic climate in a mill-town and the depressing relationships of nearly all of the characters.
Paul Newman was excellent and along with the Hanson Brothers was the best part of the movie, but with time the movie has lost a lot of its edge and therefore has not aged well.
