Review of Slackers (2002) by Edmund O — 06 Jan 2008
This film has a plot, but it does a weird job of telling it. There are a lot of details as to what's happening, but the main plot line doesn't seem to exist. I don't know whether that was done on purpose or not, but I don't think I like it.
The plot generally just concerns a creepy psychotic nerd who blackmails a group of three con artists into getting him a girlfriend. There is some truly twisted material here, particularly a scene in which the nerd gives Mamie Van Dorian a sponge bath.
Jason Schwartzman was good in RUSHMORE and SPUN, but here he's just all weird and nasty.
