Review of Skyfall (2012) by Marc B — 09 Dec 2015
Spoiler Alert! Be warned. Better than Quantum but not as stunning as Casino Royale. Daniel Craig has cemented himself firmly as a top Bond, and frankly that was never in doubt. Sam Mendes does a great job in steering the franchise in a different direction, leaning more towards the Connery era with the iconic Aston Martin and PPK.
That might have something to do with the 50th anniversary and a tribute to the Scottish grump, with by far the best sequence set up the A9 in a remote castle with Silva hot on his heels. Another reference involves the platinum menace, with Goldfinger and Julian Assange obviously a base for Bardems villain, which has to be one of the most interesting performances since Heath Ledgers Joker.
And for Misshh Moneypenny...nice. Not sure what they were trying to achieve with the Komodo Dragons but CGI must've been playing up that day. All round a great effort and hopefully Mendes stays for the next one carrying on with the new retro theme.
