Review of Skeleton Crew (2009) by Paavo I — 10 Nov 2009
Very hit and miss, this film hardly does anything new or ground breaking... stealing bits and pieces from other movies. This is a movie about a film crew that is making a "hostel-saw-like" movie that end up finding themselves in a "hostel-saw-like" movie... and in a surprise twist, they discover they are actually in a movie. That was a dumb scene and really took away from the whole experience. Characters were played with typical cliche pinache and the plot was as lame as could be expected. It had some potential with the concept however when it started out with a loooooong stalker/torture sequence, it was wasted. Why put so much energy into creating a "realistic" fright sequence when it spells out clearly that these are people making a horror movie. The whole first twenty minutes was a bore. What I also found funny: the film crew is supposed to be American (as the synopsis claims) but they are all obviously people who learned english as a second language.
So, does it have anything redeeming about it? Well, it is atmospheric. That's about it. Aside from that, this flick is a turkey chock full of the typical characters amking the worst choices in order to fight for survival. It also has a conclusion that is void of any belief (actually, it kind of spiraled down from the "twist") and kind of a cop out.
