Review of Sixteen Candles (1984) by David S — 17 Mar 2010
Despite a few tasteless gags, and a few characters that aren't quite as likeable as they are made out to be, this is still a generally uplifting and enjoyable teen comedy, that (especially in its key scene - a conversation between father and daughter) stresses the presence of constant love and hope for the future in times of crisis and change.
The acting honours go to Hall here, who plays a persistent 'geek' who nonetheless somehow conveys an air of sadness about his character.
