Review of Sisters (2015) by Becky E — 23 Apr 2016
Tina Fey and Amy Poehler team up again with several notable SNL alumni in this comedy about 2 sisters who are BFFs.
First off, it's not a bad movie and it's certainly not a ladies only comedy, there are lots of jokes throughout that should appeal to both genders. Tina Fey does well as the younger, crazier, and all around irresponsible mother. She really pulls out as many metaphors for women's genitalia as she possibly can, from her never ending bag of vagina insults. It follows a fairly unbelievable plot where two 40 somethings want to have a party in their parents house before they sell it (basically House Party without Kid and Play). The funniest moments, and the only time I laughed out loud was the small cameo John Cena had, between him and Tina Fey having a bit of small talk in between scenes. Bobby Moynihan, was as funny as a serial killer's 'to do' list though.
Sisters is certainly better than some comedies out there. Like hiring John Leguizamo, you wonder if it's worth it and then you realize halfway through... it's probably not but you're stuck with it.
It's worth a watch though. Just one.
2/5.
