"Tina Fey and Amy Poehler are electric together as always in this sweet, raunchy comedy".

Movie Review: Sisters.

Date Viewed: December 23 2015.

Directed By Jason Moore.

Written By Paula Pell.

Starring: Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, John Leguizamo, Maya Rudolph, John Cena, Madison Davenport, Ike Barinholtz, Bobby Moynihan, Rachel Dratch, Samantha Bee, Kate McKinnon, Chris Parnell, James Brolin and Dianne Wiest.

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler are always electric together, whether it's hosting the Golden Globes or pairing in their 2008 comedy "Baby Mama", they are a great dynamic duo. In their new raunchy comedy "Sisters", they play sisters who want to throw one big high school style party in their old childhood house before it is gone forever. "Sisters" is not a great R-rated comedy but it still works thanks to the teaming of Fey and Poehler.

"Sisters" is about two sisters who have to return to their childhood home because their parents are planning to sell it. Maura Ellis (Poehler) is the working-class sister who's always kind to others and Kate Ellis (Fey) is the immature sister who's recently divorced and just got kicked out of her apartment. Maura and Kate become utterly furious at their mom (Dianne Wiest) and dad (James Brolin) for selling their childhood home. Maura and Kate have until the weekend to clean out everything in their bedroom before the new owners claim the house.

After reading their diaries, Maura and Kate decide to throw one last high school style party before they say goodbye to this house.

They invite all of their high school friends but they exclude rival Brinda (Maya Rudolph) because Kate hates her so much. The party includes old high school friends and a big muscle-bound drug dealer named Pazuzu (John Cena). At first, the party goes smoothly but it all turns raunchy and chaotic, the pool starts to over flow, people start writing on the walls and as you guessed some vomiting.

For a movie about two sisters who want to throw one last big party before they say goodbye to their childhood home, it has a lot of F-bombs, potty humor and dick jokes.

The third act reveals an unveiled secret that threatens to destroy Maura and Kate's relationship but they quickly resolve it because their sisters and close friends.

The movie also stars John Leguizamo as one of Kate's old flames, Bobby Moynihan as the annoying clown who thinks he's funny when he's actually really not funny, Madison Davenport as Kate's teenage daughter and Ike Barinholtz as a hunky renovator and landscaper who becomes a potential boyfriend for Maura. "Sisters" does deliver a ton of laughs but it all feels familiar. Despite being former cast members and writers of "SNL", Tina Fey and Amy Poehler did not write the screenplay, instead fellow "SNL" writer Paula Pell wrote the script. "Sisters" could've been a whole lot funnier and smarter if the two wrote it together but unfortunately the movie takes the easy way out.

Still, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler's tremendous comedic chemistry is what makes "Sisters" work. It is a sweet and hilarious R-rated comedy.
