Review of Sister Act (1992) by Bradley W — 19 Jun 2012
Sister Act was a funny film, but is clouded with cliches and such a simple plot that it just felt weaker compared to other great comedies. I was very excited to see this film, I was hoping it would be a laugh riot and I would really love it, and although it is funny, it doesn't live up to my expectations.
There are many jokes about Catholicism and being a nun, and although its funny for the most part, it felt like a film I have seen a million times (I felt like I was watching Kindergarden Cop all over again, but instead with Whoopi Goldberg as a witness instead of a cop.
Whoopi Goldberg was the star attraction, I mean she was perfect for the character they gave this film, but I found her character very annoying at the start of the film but she slowly grows more likable throughout the film.
Sadly her character will be the only memorable one as she is the only interesting actress in the film, they really didn't even give Maggie Smith much to work with. So it overall was just a fun movie with some good laughs, but it fails to bring anything new in terms of story or characters.
