Review of Singles (1992) by Jose M — 29 Apr 2009
Its ok, but that's about all I'll give it. One of the more definitive films associated with the Gen-X movement, Cameron Crowe's "Singles" boasts some solid performances all-around.
I especially liked Campbell Scott, Kyra Sedgwick, and Bridget Fonda. In spite of the strength of the relatively young ensemble cast, and the great atmosphere that the film was set in (grunge era Seattle), it all seems so bland, shallow, and predictable.
I think compared to his later work, and even Say Anything, Singles is a remarkably plain and underwhelming entry. I recommend Reality Bites, as it is a better example of the same theme disillusionment in Generation X, and a much better film, as well.
