Review of Singin' in the Rain (1952) by Hardy H — 09 Apr 2011
Besides the expected goofiness as the result of the change of time (i mean seriously think about it, this is made almost 60 years ago), this film is surprisingly entertaining even today. The snappy pace moves along one scene/song after anothe, I dont think any film today can get away with this, but with the given story and genre, it moves along and gives great passion and energy. Even the story was rather interesting, showing, though surface deep, the growing pain of talking pictures.
For me some songs are better than others, Make them Laugh and other faster pace songs were better than ballads. And who can deny the pure magic of Gene's Singing in the Rain - one of the most memorable singing scene in cinema history that will always cheer you up.
Not that i've seen a whole lot of Musical. but this and Song of Music are my top picks of the genre.
