Review of Sing Street (2016) by Mique W — 15 Sep 2016
It's a film about going against the system -- the constraints inflicted by the traditionalist norms imposed by the poverty-stricken Irish public school authority. It's a film about the coping mechanisms of the oppressed youths of this era, and how music (which ranged from the kick-ass tunes of Duran Duran and The Cure) and art livened up their mundane lives.
Despite a conventional set up, there's enough charm here (and brilliant, original songs) to have you hurling your cynicism right out the window.
