Review of Since You Went Away (1944) by Sean V — 16 Dec 2009
An excellent film examining life on the home front during WWII. The perfect casting (Claudette Colbert, Shirley Temple, Joseph Cotton) and carefully crafted story engrosses you into the story. Everyone has seen Saving Private Ryan.
More people need to see this film because of how clearly it delves into the meaning of sacrifice and the culture of 1940s America. It beautifully captures elements of domestic life during war (uncertainty, despair, hope, and courage) that we experience to this day.
