Review of Sin City: A Dame to Kill For (2014) by Anonymous User — 26 Sep 2014
It took 9 years to get a sequel (not that one was necessarily needed) to 2005's visual tour de force, and the result is good looking but flawed. Despite the time waiting, it feels like a rushed job; casting is excellent but the central story- replacing Clive Owen for Josh Brolin as Dwight- feels flat, though Eva Green is a tremendous villain (though the story relies too much on her other assets).
It is an anthology of course, but it doesn't have the flow of its predecessor- or the streaks of black humour. Joseph Gordon Levitt is spot on as brand new Sin City character Johnny in possibly one of the bleakest stories ever committed to the summer cinema season.
It doesn't have the spark of Sin City, and A Dame to Kill For has a nice enough veneer, but beneath this hollow exterior is little else. Lazily written, and occasionally looking like a Flash animation during vehicle sequences.
You know, in between the parts where people are getting smashed apart.
