Review of Sin City: A Dame to Kill For (2014) by Drago? C — 11 Jan 2015
The sequel that came a decade too late A dame to kill for is sloppy and slapdash. The titular story is straightforward and campy (as a Sin City story should be) but crosses in the territory of too campy and uses Eva Green's tits center frame so much that they begin to lose any appeal 10 minutes in. The Secondary story is a bit more interesting although Gordon Levitt is as dull as ever. But nothing can rescue this movie. The stylised CGI looks dated, inconsistent and just shoddy and the pulp noir atmosphere that the first one exploited so well vanishes in a haze of ridicule. Maybe I'm more mature as a viewer, maybe we're all more mature as an audience, Maybe Rodriguez has just lost it but this is an epic disappointment. And, seriously, casting lady gaga? Even for a bit part?
Not recommended in any way.
