Review of Sin City: A Dame to Kill For (2014) by David D — 24 Nov 2014
Every bit as visually stunning as the original Sin City film, but this sequel doesn't seem to move as fast nor do the separate stories seem to blend together as well as those in the first film did.
All but the last story, which is a sequel to the tale starring Bruce Willis in the original (appearing as a ghostly commentator in this tale), seem to have too little back story -- the first movie seemed to be able to simply suggest a back story while this one can't seem to carry that trick off.
It has an excellent cast, some of whom are used only in brief cameo roles, but the best is Powers Boothe reprising his role as the evil Senator Roarke. Stacy Keach, in one of those too brief cameo roles, appears in makeup so heavy you might not recognize him if it were not for his distinctive voice -- more of that villain might have made for a stronger film if the scenes were well written.
Mildly disappointing but still a movie worth viewing.
