Review of Sin City: A Dame to Kill For (2014) by Vulcan S — 09 Jan 2015
Jessica Alba's acting has improved! And in a visual level, A Dame to Kill For is a step forward from Sin City and all the other exploitation Grindhouse flicks Robert Rodriguez made the past decade.
Its essence and storytelling, however, like the rest of his Grindhouse flicks, fail to excel and demonstrate any improvement of Rodriguez as an artist. Painful as it is, the Mariachi style is showing its age.
The cheap and cheesy homage was interesting to look at and laugh with in The Mexico Trilogy, Sin City and Planet Terror. But when a same trick is played too many times, people do get tired and they wouldn't laugh anymore.
Perhaps I should accept the fact that Rodriguez has already peaked as a filmmaker, but I refuse to; I wish that one day, this statement is proven wrong and I can enjoy a Rodriguez production again.
