Oh, the vagaries of history and timing. Poor Rodriguez, you waited too long to make this film. Had you make it even four year earlier, the critics would have lapped it up. But everyone had time to feel guilty for liking the first one, and now it's all whine whine whine.
It's not as pure as the first, but there are some unbelievable performances in this one (OMFG JOSH BROLIN), and it's certainly worth your time if you enjoyed the first. Consistent, delightful, and awful.
It doesn't shy away from being what it is. I would happily watch a third.
