Review of Sin City (2005) by Josh G — 23 Aug 2013
This is just one of those fantastic and awesome films.
Start with the way it was filmed. I believe most of the backgrounds are fake, using green screens, and the way they use shadows and certain colors on the actors is just pure bliss on your visual senses. Blood stands out on the black and white colors, and it looks really cool. Something like Alexis Bledel's amazing blue eyes look even better the way they single them out.
The cast is simply amazing. Everyone really gets a chance to shine, and some of them get to weave in between the three main stories. Wood and Stahl may not have a lot of screen time, but they are creepy in what they do get. Rourke just steals the show for the most part, but Del Toro makes a close second. Yeah, Alba and Madsen can be the weak links at times, but the rest of the cast make up for them. Devon Aoki is a real find here as well.
I just loved how they made all the stories flow together and the overall feel of this film. Been dying for the sequel, but how did it take 15 years to make?
