Chungking Express: The pace of this movie is so frenetic that I almost feel that it's like levels of sound, the movie was on a frequency going too fast for my limited sensory organs to fully process.

Maybe if I spent more time in Hong Kong I'd get the groove better, at least that's what Quentin Tarantino thinks. I gotta thank the guy and his company Rolling Thunder for bringing the movie over because it's definitely a very funny movie worth passing along.

I realize I've said it before but I really like the way Wong Kar Wai paints abstract images using the figures of his performers in motion. I think that's minty. My two major beefs with the movie are that its transition was too abrupt and the stories seemed assymetrical.

This is one of those movies I want to see a couple more times to make sure I don't miss a layer.
Ashes of Time: Remember Chungking Express? Well Ashes of Time is the magnum opus that Wong Kar Wai needed to take a break from and the break he took turned into Chungking Express.

I have to say that even though I can definitely sympathsize with how arduous a process storytelling can be both movies were well worth the pain. I've got a longer, more detailed review of Ashes of Time developing in the marsupium that is my private entry classification but I will hopefully have it out soon for everyone's reading pleasure.

In the meantime all you need to know is that this is a really good movie that grows on you and gets under your skin so you should see it if at all possible.
The Predator: Chalk another one up for my boyfriend, he recommended this fun action/sci-fi movie which I quite liked.

Kudos to the Predator because it really did get me to involuntarily shriek at several points which is always a good sign for an action/sci-fi movie. I found myself wanting to know more plot about the Predators, why they were here, where they're from, what they want and such but I know that's the curious Treker in me.

I do think the concept of this movie is very good and it's a complement to the writers that they left me wanting to see more. Unfortunately I haven't heard too many positives about the sequel.

Alas alas...
The Last Boy Scout: This is the type of movie that eleven year old nerdy boys devise together to escape the doldrums of ordinary reality with one of the goals being to make the special effects department come up with as many explosions, action scenes, and as much fake blood as the minutes in the movie will allow.

Damon Wayans and Bruce Willis have great chemistry and Halle Berry's brief but picturesque performance was certainly foreshadowing for her recent feline-esq shenanigins. I hope Halle's mom doesn't have to see her in all these costumes though.

This juvenile male fantasy-trip is a lot of fun and it has a knockout ending. I'll close with this charming example of how the nerdy boys think a hero expresses the depth of his emotion: "F**k you Sarah.

If the cops weren't here, I'd spit in your eye."
Silverado: You know, when I saw the hype on the box that said "The classic Western is back!" and all that, I was a tad skeptical because classic westerns are like marzipan: rich, stylized, tasty pleasures that are works of art unto themselves, something you can't make everday.

Well I am very pleased to say that Silverado is a real treat which actually did do what it set out to do, tell a really great story of the Old West. Kevin Kline, Kevin Costner, Danny Glover, Scott Glenn, Linda Hunt, and Brian Dennehy all did a fabulous job and I enjoyed it thoroughly.
