Review of Silver Streak (1976) by Paul D — 07 Nov 2007
Striking the perfect balance between comedy, Suspense, drama and action, this Gene Wilder (ahem) vehicle, plays for laughs and thrills and is a rare gem. Ahead of it's time with regard to stunts and jokes it also features a stand out performance from the man Wilder.
Even the gentle opening sequence is well written, with little happening, it still sets the scene and introduces characters beautifully. And none of the preamble even hints at the climactic scene (which incidentally is entirely believable.
...unlike some of todays trash fair). Just two criticisms...the dating due to some of the back projection (entirely forgiveable) and the late entry of Richard Pryor....I was waiting waitingwaiting, but boy was it worth the wait.
