Review of Silver Linings Playbook (2012) by Kelsey B — 22 Mar 2014
-- A Romantic Comedy with a mental twist that warms your heart --.
I really like this movie. It may not be worth 5 stars, but it deserves at least 4.5. Hence, my 5 stars.
The plot is described in details in many of the longer reviews, so I'm not going to repeat it.
It is a story about mental illness, family ties, friendship, love, death, divorce, sadness, happiness and how to rebuild one's life after a traumatic shock. I guess I particularly like this movie (besides the good acting), because the main characters resemble a close relative of mine, who also suffered from a mental illness.
Sure, the movie has it's weak moments, but it is fast paced and never boring. It also comes as a bit of a surprise that Bradley Cooper really can act, and I must also say that Jennifer Lawrence's Oscar, was well deserved. The acting of De Niro and Jacki Weaver is also superb.
If you like romantic comedies, and can bear with the mental twist, then this is definately a movie you should watch.
