Review of Silver Linings Playbook (2012) by Jaimie H — 03 Dec 2015
Silver Linings Playbook is a romantic comedy fit for the mentally ill. The brilliance is in the attention to detail of its leads' quirks and the clashes that result. Their first meeting sees them discussing what medications they've each been on before they abruptly leave a dinner party.
Their "not a date" erupts in an argument over who has more severe problems. Their blundering around on their way to liking each other stems from their mental issues (as opposed to contrived "comedic" scenarios) and gives the movie a sense of genuine warmth.
