Review of Silver Linings Playbook (2012) by Christopher E — 04 Dec 2015
"You have to do everything you can, you have to work your hardest, and if you do, you have a shot at a silver lining.".
Silver Linings Playbook is one of the best directed movies out there, it has a unique and genius screenplay, along with some amazing actors who made this movie feel so real. I'm going to just say it, this movie was perfect.
Bradley Cooper plays a character named Pat, who has been living in a mental institution for 8 months after he was diagnosed with bi-polar disorder. He's been living his whole life with this inner demon, but hadn't been diagnosed with it until recently. Jennifer Lawrence plays a girl named Tiffany, who is battling an unknown mental illness of her own, and together, these two create fireworks.
The thing that I loved about this movie is that it feels so real, and it is an accurate and respectful portrayal of those who battle with bi-polar disorder. Not only can this movie really give us the perspective of someone who is stuck in this situation, but its underlying messages really stick with you and make you think about a lot of things in life. Honestly, if you know any bi-polar people, you know that they are very similar to this. This movie does a great job of capturing all the little things that really make this movie feel genuinely real and respectful. The topic of illness is a difficult one to perfectly execute, but this movie really does that well. It takes something that many people struggle with, and it is an inspiration to anyone that is going through any sort of hardships in life.
The characters in this movie were so well done and amazing. Cooper as Pat, is someone that we can really relate to, because we look at him (Cooper) as an actor, and he relays the character's emotion so well. We all go through tough moments in life, and he really shows us that we're not so different from Pat in many ways. Lawrence as Tiffany also delivers us a character that helps us see life in many different ways. She also struggles with her own battles, as she had lost her husband in a car crash recently, and she hadn't been coping well with it. Let me tell you, it's definitely hard to say that Jennifer Lawrence is annoying because I love her as an actress, but in this film, she does a great job of portraying this character and making us forget who the actor is behind the scene. What I also really loved was that no one in this movie was perfect. Everyone had their own little problem or their niche that made them imperfect, and they all had something that they struggled with. Everyone in this movie faced hardships of some kind, and it was really amazing to see these imperfect characters excel through life, even when they get knocked down.
This movie was a perfect blend between a drama and a comedy. It had the perfect amount of smart humor that had me cracking up on multiple occasions, and it also gave us the perfect amount of drama to make us feel warm inside. The movie's tone is perfect and it knew exactly what kind of film it wanted to be. This movie is a perfect film that represents those with problems in their life, and there are plenty of underlying messages to look at when watching this film. You can learn something from everybody's life in this movie, and it makes you want to push on everyday to think positive and to smile every once in a while.
In all, this movie was perfect. It had the perfect, intelligent screenplay that really paid dividends to those who struggle with life, and the messages in this movie were heart warming. The acting was perfect and Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence are truly some of the best actors in Hollywood today. Robert Di Nero was also an amazing side character, and this movie was genuinely perfect in every way. It's a dramady that you can watch when you're happy, sad, mad or content. You can watch it alone, or you can watch it with a date. It's even perfect to watch it with somebody who is going through the same struggles that the characters are going through, and this movie truly deserves, 5 stars.
