Review of Silkwood (1983) by Scott E — 26 Aug 2006
Meryl Streep has been called Hollywood's greatest actress. One of the best stories I ever read about her involved her laying immune to the outside world on a block of ice in her trailer to best relate to her next scene in which she'd play a corpse. Her dedication to fully embracing the character she plays is obvious in every film she acts in, and Silkwood is no exception.
With an Academy-Award-nominated by then-unknown Cher and a supporting role by Kurt Russell, Meryl had a lot to work with. Toss in a story loosely based on a Nuclear plant in Oklahoma City and you have magic. Though the story has a few holes that 25 years ago a cinemafile wouldn't notice, it is still worth a see, for Meryl's performance alone.
